This course will continue into Photoshop II starting February 27 - March 27, 2009 on Fridays for 5 weeks from 9 - 11:40 am

WHAT: This course is designed to familiarize students with the workspace, tools, features and functionality of Photoshop Elements, Adobe's photo-editing software for amateur photographers, digital imaging enthusiasts, and small business users.

"Photoshop Elements is modeled after the well-known professional-grade industry standard, Photoshop and has more features than pros will use. It's a consumer level program that delivers professional results."

As the name implies, Photoshop Elements is built around core elements of Adobe Photoshop, excluding some of the more advanced, professional-level features and adding its own unique features specifically for photo-hobbyists.

If you've struggled with Photoshop for years or been meaning to learn it, now is the time. Adobe finally pulled out the best parts, improved the workspace and made it really useful for typical users. Learn it for free at CCSF Downtown.

STEP ONE - ENROLL AS A STUDENT

HOW TO BECOME A CITY COLLEGE STUDENT

To take non credit courses at City College of San Francisco, you will first need to apply to be a student in the non-credit division. This is quick and easy to do online. Please follow the links below to initiate this process.

Application for Non Credit Division - English
Application for Non Credit Division - Spanish
Application for Non Credit Division - Chinese

To look over class options online, please go to http://www.ccsf.edu/Catalog/

STEP TWO - PRE REGISTER FOR CLASSES

HOW TO REGISTER FOR A NON CREDIT CLASS

Once you have applied to be a student, you will need to register for classes. To register for Spring 2009 non-credit classes offered by the Business Department in the Downtown campus,

1) It's best to pre-register in person at the Admissions office at the Downtown campus (Fourth and Mission) one block south of Powell BART.

2) If Admissions officiers tell you that the class is full or if the class has already begun, come in person to classroom 516 and speak directly with instructor McNeal.

IF CLASS IS FULL

Depending on the size of the class, instructor may be able to give permission for prospective student to sit in available seating without computer and watch instruction.

Instructor will record names of students on a waiting list and call / email them as a seat becomes available. Often seats become available during the first two weeks of class so some patience may be required of students wanting to join the class after the class is full.

Any questions, email Marilyn at mmcneal@ccsf.edu

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • The goal of these classes is to provide students with a technical education that will assist them in their career pursuits.

  • My classes are open to all enrolled City College students. These classes are non-credit and are tuition free. To enroll as a student in non-credit, please go here.

  • Students are advised to pre-register for classes by dropping in to the Downtown campus and going to the Admissions office on the ground floor. If you are told the class is full come to the first and second class anyway and I can register you in class if a seat opens up.

  • I can accept students after the class start date if there are still seats available. See below.

  • The only requirements to take any of the classes are 1) familiarity with using the mouse and 2) some web browsing experience.

  • I am flexible and can often accommodate busy evening schedules within reason i.e. I can work with students who may need to come late or leave early. You will need to identify yourself and your situation at the end of the first class or (preferably) via email in advance. We'll try out the arrengement for one or two classes and then assess to see if the situation is workable.

SEATING POLICY

Seats are assigned. This is to everyone’s advantage because it reduces confusion and settling in time at the beginning of class and allows you to get to know your neighbors, the people who will be your learning partners!

ATTENANCE AT FIRST DAY OF CLASS MANDITORY

To get an assigned seat, it is imperative that you attend the first class. This is when the seating arrangements are made (though they are often modified over the course of the first couple of classes as people add and drop). If you do not attend the first class, you may not get a seat.

LATENESS

Once you are assigned a seat, your seat will be held for 10 minutes. If you are more than 10 minutes late, your seat will be offered to another student who is waiting.

ABSENCE

If you can not come to class, please email the instructor in advance. If you fail to attend more than two classes in a row your seat will be re-assigned.

WHAT HAPENS ON THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS

  • If you have not registered, please arrive to classroom 15 minutes early.
  • Instructor will start a waiting list and register you on the spot (this does not mean you are admitted into class yet).
  • Instructor will read off a list of students who have pre-registered and offer seats to those students.
  • Students who register in class and attend the first two classes are next in line for a seat.
  • Students who show up on the third day of class seeking a seat can sign a waiting list for a seat - if a student is late or fails to appear for the class then their seat will be given to students on the waiting list according to order.

COMING TO CLASS AFTER IT HAS STARTED - COURTESY POLICY

If you come to a class after the class has formally begun, don't just enter the classroom and take a seat! Speak with the instructor before the class starts. If class is in session, wait quietly outside of the classroom door until the instructor can acknowledge you and discuss your options.

SPECIAL NEEDS STUDENTS

If you require seating accommodations due to disability, you will need to go through City College's Disabled Students Programs and Services in advance.

The Counselor for the Downtown campus is Anne Van Derslice. Please contact her via the email address below and she'll meet with you to discuss how City College can accommodate you and provide you with a CATAV (Classroom and Test Accommodation Verification).
